This morning Gypsy sent a text suggesting an Italian adventure for 2022 ... that would combine cooking / eating / wine tasting with food blogger / cookbook author Mimi Thorisson, whose Manger blog we have both been following for several years. Piemonte is home of the slow food movement, some of the finest wines in Italy — most notably Barolos and Barbarescos — leading coffee roasters. It is also the land of fresh

pastas (think agnolotti / ravioli / risotto), breadsticks, rich meats braised in wine or served raw, white truffles, hazelnuts, panna cotta, chocolate, and one of the best organic farmers market anywhere. Our adventure will start in Torino, the regional capital of Piemonte. This is where Italian cinema started, aperitivo was invented, and where castles dot the countryside. I am also wildly excited that the world's oldest museum devoted entirely to ancient Egyptian culture ((1824) — Museo Egizio — is in Torino as well!

During the three-day workshop, we will be doing hands-on cooking, collecting ingredients at a farmers market, going to marvelous restaurants for demonstrations (and eating), and spending time in the wine making hills of the Langhe Roero.

I love Italy and have fond memories dating back to 1975, when Rick and I were young college art students exploring and briefly studying in Florence ... with not much money. My last trips were exploring the lakes district (
1999) and Tuscany and Umbria with our dear friends Steph and Carlo (2000). So it is high time to return for more adventure Italia-style!
