Little Ricky (LR) — my 17-month old Boxer puppy — woke us at 6:30AM. He was so excited as I packed his things for overnight puppy camp, where he will staying while I'm in Egypt.
Two things I know about myself: 1) I don't like to be rushed, and 2) I've learned to minimize stressful situations. For these reasons, I began weeks ago to lay everything I wanted to take for this trip. I even decided two-days ago to drop LR off at puppy camp two-days before Gypsy and I fly to Egypt to put undivided attention to getting ready for this trip. Like me, LR doesn't pack lightly . . . he has more than 3-weeks of food — just in case — a full bag of kibble, a case of wet food, 3-weeks worth of cooked organic turkey burger, two containers of organic cottage cheese, a blanket, toys, a rainproof fleece-lined jacket, lots of rawhide chew sticks as a treat after a full day of non-stop playing with other pups. |
Once our gardener Rene arrives, LR and I are off to take him to Ruff Ranch on the other side of our valley. It takes about 30 minutes and just as we pull off the highway our beautiful blue sky day turns to light rain. LR is beside himself with excitement as he is greeted by one of his favorite camp counselors, and with barely a kiss good-bye, he is off to the play yard!
Returning home, I finished packing, gave Rene detailed instructions of what landscaping projects needed to get done over the two-weeks I'm away, packed up the car, and drove to Santa Barbara where I'll spend the night at Gypsy's guest casita.
First stop, however, was the Walking Company to pick up a pair of orthotic insoles for a pair of new sneakers. Next, I headed to Gypsy's house to deposit luggage and an overnight bag before we head to Angel Nails + Spa for manicures and pedicures. My day ended with dinner at Gypsy's daughter's home with her family, along with her brother and his fiancé.
By 9PM, I was snuggled under a comforter reading a few pages of a new mystery story before sleep.
