Today begins my spiritual journey to India. There is no better or more fitting way to spend Valentine's Day than flying thousands of feet above the ground —closer to my beloved late husband Rick — with my dear friend and fellow spiritual sister Babe! While this may not be what I looked like (this trip), it is certainly how I felt with bags packed — including umbrella — and ready to leave for India! |
Peetie's pup-sitter Brendan arrived promptly at 9:30AM to take me to meet the airport shuttle to LAX. Peetie is over the moon that he will have male energy to keep him company for the next 2-1/2 weeks!
Even the shuttle is on time . . . and with only one other person aboard. Traffic through Los Angeles is relatively light so we make good time with hours to spare. Synchronistically, Babe's flight arrives from Portland and within 20 minutes we are hugging each other and talking excitedly about our adventure. |
After checking our bags at British Airways, and with hours before we board our plane to London, we check out the our plane to London, we check out the food options in the Tom Bradley International terminal. Settling on Vino Volo, we order wine and salads and begin catching up on both of our lives since we last saw each other a couple of years ago in Albuquerque.
My seat mate is a 30-ish Englishman, returning home from a business trip in Los Angeles. After a welcome glass of champagne, I settle in to watch Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman, eat dinner and sleep for about six-hours. I awake in time for breakfast and catch up on BBC News before landing.
With about 2 hours before the last stretch of our journey to Chennai, we find our way to our departing flight terminal. After sitting for so many hours, it feels good to walk around. We also watch out for others in our group who will be on the same flight having flown in from Vancouver, BC.
My seat mate on this leg is also about 30-something. A university librarian, he is heading to Chennai for a three-day conference and then heading back home to Philadelphia. A very long way to travel for such a short amount of time! My routine is about the same ... after a welcome glass of champagne, I settle in to watch (for the second time) Call Me By Your Name, which was my favorite film in 2017, eat dinner and sleep for about another 6 or more hours.
